SHEFFIELD, Texas — Tragedy struck the quiet town of Sheffield on Thursday morning when 66-year-old Truman Harrison was discovered dead inside his residence on Main Street. Authorities confirmed Harrison had been shot, and the case is now being investigated as a murder.

According to the Pecos County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call regarding an unattended death at approximately 7:30 a.m. on September 25, 2025. Upon arrival at 215 Main Street, deputies located Harrison, whose death has left the community reeling.

The Texas Rangers and the Texas Ranger Forensics Team have been called in to assist with the investigation, underscoring the seriousness of the case. Law enforcement officials say this remains an active and ongoing investigation, with authorities working diligently to determine what led to the fatal shooting.

Community members described Harrison as a familiar and well-liked presence in Sheffield, where news of his death has spread shock and grief. “Things like this don’t happen here,” one resident shared. “Truman was a neighbor, a friend. It’s heartbreaking and terrifying all at once.”
